The painting depicts a well known figure in Cape Town, a female vendor of herbs who inherited the trade from her mother and passed it on to her daughter. Positioned amidst two worn-out political posters featuring Smuts and Malan, prominent figures from the 1948 election, the woman gazes directly at the viewer with a look of satisfaction on her face. The artist captures her steadfastness and seriousness, highlighting her lasting presence compared to the fleeting nature of the posters. This artwork can be interpreted as conveying a sense of enduring significance and the exclusion of marginalized voices in the realm of politics.
